About Us

Our Commitment

Our commitment is summarised within our mission statement:

“The White Horse Care Trust is dedicated to providing the highest levels of individual support and care in order to improve and enrich the lives of those with learning and other disabilities”

We ensure that everyone’s physical, mental, religious, spiritual and cultural needs are respected and are clear within detailed care plans which guide the sensitive delivery of bespoke care and other activities to all those entrusted to us.

We encourage individuals to exercise the maximum possible choice and control over all matters which affect their daily lives, acknowledging the dignity and respect to which every individual is absolutely entitled.

Our Beliefs and Core Values

We believe that underpinned by our commitment to care centred around the individual and guided by our core values we can make a positive difference to the quality of life whilst striving to improve outcomes for each individual entrusted to our care. We work collaboratively with the individual, multiple agencies and the individual’s family to ensure that the best levels of holistic care are devised, recorded and delivered in a comprehensive and consistent way by a dedicated team of trained, skilled and experienced care staff within each service.

Our Key Core Values are:
  1. Promoting anti-discriminatory practice
  2. Maintaining confidentiality of information
  3. Promoting and supporting individuals right to dignity, independent choice and safety.
  4. Acknowledging people's personal beliefs and identities
  5. Protecting individuals from abuse
  6. Providing effective communication and meaningful relationships
  7. Providing individualised care in order to maintain health and to optimise outcomes
  8. Engaging with the wider family

Today’s White Horse Care Trust

Built upon the solid foundations of residential care provision for adults with learning disabilities, the Trust is now in it’s 29th year. It is worthy of note that we still have some original staff members and service users which were here on day one! Over this time, we have grown and diversified in order to meet the increasing demand for a wider range of services for individuals with cognitive diversity and we now boast 2 specialist nursing facilities, 10 residential homes of mixed sizes, three supported living services, along with outreach provision. More of these service types are planned. All of our services are, of course, regularly inspected by local authorities and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) whose reports are easily accessed via their website to which the links are in each of the pages on our site.

Our Future

As a medium sized regional provider of care services, we will continue to work very closely with our neighbouring local authorities from whom nearly all of our referrals come. Understanding regional demographics, other care offerings, our community, changes in care philosophy and regulations all ensure that we remain an agile and hugely responsive provider of mixed care offerings at a price which offers value for money, whilst preserving an irreducible level of quality care standards, all of which are delivered across a well-maintained estate.

We take great pride in our reputation and will not expand just for expansions’ sake. We will choose where, what and how we continue to offer demand led services but will not compromise on safety and quality in order to meet a price. Our excellent supported living services are expected to grow a little this year but there are no imminent major expansion plans.

Our Trustees

The Directors of the company are also Charity Trustees for the purposes of charity law and under the company's Articles, are known as members of the Council of Management.

Under the requirements of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the members of the Council of Management, known generally as the Board of Trustees, are elected to serve for a period of three years after which they may be re-elected at the next Annual General Meeting.

The Board of Trustees may consist of up to twelve members who are selected for their various skills. We currently have nine Trustees who are drawn from the fields of medicine, education, business and finance. Most have been with the Trust for very many years. It would not be practicable for one of the Trust's service users to sit as a member of the Board of Trustees. However, a parent of one of our service users, has been appointed as a trustee to keep the Board aware of service users’ interests. Where vacancies occur on the Board, individuals with the requisite skills and interest are approached in order to bring their experience and perspective to assist the Trust.

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee and would like further information, please do get in touch.
