After Joining White Horse Care Trust

Initially he required 2:1 support to access the community and after using social stories and improving communication and understanding he is now able to access the community on a 1:1 basis. A structured weekly planner provides him with the reassurance of what to expect throughout the week, and communication passports support staff in understanding his communication. Staff also receive intensive interactive, sign-a-long autism and deaf awareness training to support their development and how best to support him. He now engages in a multitude of activities and has even begun working in the community with the support of staff volunteering once a month with the ‘village tidy up’. His independence is developing all the time and small things such as independently taking out food for the birds is a small step towards reinforcing and establishing incremental steps to becoming more independent.
